8.5′ x 20′ Deck Over Trailer Plans – 7000 lbs Capacity
  • Width and Length: The trailer is 8 feet 6 inches wide, the typical legal width limit, and includes rub rails. The bed length is 20 feet 3.5 inches, including the steel frame. The overall length, including the tongue, is 301 inches (a little over 25 feet), which may vary slightly depending on the selected options.
  • Bed Height: The trailer bed height depends on design choices and is typically around 34 inches. However, this height can vary with tire size, spring shape, shims, load, and other options.
  • Load Capacity: The trailer features a 7,000 lbs max capacity (combined axle rating) using tandem axles rated at 3,500 lbs each. This load capacity includes the trailer weight with all options.
  • Suspension: The suspension consists of leaf springs, double eye style, with an equalizer. Slipper type springs are acceptable, but the design is not for independent torsion axles.
  • Trailer Weight: The trailer weight varies depending on design options. The base flatbed trailer weighs approximately 1,800+ lbs, including axles and wheels, but without decking, sides, or ramps. Options such as sides, decking choices, and other features will affect the total weight.
  • Options Included in the Plans:
    • Deck Options: Choose from various materials and connection options, with or without wheel covers.
    • Sides: Build the standard flatbed or select from permanent or removable side options included in the plans. Side options include variations such as tie-downs, rub rails, and stake pockets.
    • Ramps: Select ramps that slide in and store under the deck (or not) and choose the ramp length and capacity you need.
    • Front Rail and Tongue Tray: The design includes options for a raised front rail and a tongue tray for special tools.
    • Additional Features: Choose a mounted toolbox, spare tire, and other functional options. Some options are mutually exclusive, so not all are pictured in the plans.
